The history and trends in King County have made it very clear that the time has come to consider whether citizens of suburban King County want to form their own county. The abuse of King Counties Citizens by the Seattle controlled County leadership has risen to the point where change must happen:
Some of these include:
-
Attempt to push Sexual Offender housing into the rural/suburban areas rather then the urban area where most of the offenders come from.
-
County Council redirection that Hotel/Restaurant taxes may be diverted from stadium to pay for arts programs (primarily in Seattle, Bellevue, et al) (www.seattletimes.com Sat, Dec 16th)
-
County doubling money spent on public art compared to state requirements
-
Continued growth of county government and payroll despite cuts in services
-
County government support for “tent city” in suburban areas over objections of local residents
-
Parks closures due to lack of money while Council votes to contribute to McCaw Hall
-
Election fiasco...
-
Spiraling growth in County workers and government size while reducing services
-
King County government increasingly forcing restrictions on rural areas e.g. CAO without adequate consideration of the impacts of those decision
-
Pending $5 billion for creation of tunnel replacement for Alaskan Way Viaduct
Another obvious reason is the disparity in population between Seattle and the rest of King County as shown by this chart. In the end, we are dwarfed by the mass of people who live inside Seattle compared with the less dense population that lives in suburban and rural areas.
